Assimilation

Assimilation is changing aspects of your identity to fit in socially. Students assimilate due to pressure from people around them or from themselves. Students change things about themselves(either physically or culturally) to attempt fitting with the crowd. In my life I have tried to fit in with people not by changing myself but my agreeing with opinions that other people, thinking that if I did this I could be seen as relatable and therefore make friends. The only benefit of assimilating I can think of is being able to make friends. When you start school no one really wants to talk to any one because they think they have nothing in common but by assimilating it could be easier to  talk to people.

People(teens especially) don't try to combat with assimilation we do try to stop it but it will never be completely gone because of people's insecurities. If students or people in general tried to fight assimilation I don't think it would be very effective. People will always think that fitting in and being popular is what's important both in school and in normal life. Unless people we're to completely forget about their insecurities and focus more on being themselves we could absolutely combat assimilation but I don't think this will happen.
