Vacation Blog Post: Romeo's Post-Party Jam

At first Romeo feels lost due to being rejected by Rosaline, he thought that she was his true love and tried everything to make her love him back. Nothing works and Romeo turns into a moping mess. So Romeo's cousin(Benvolio) insists on him attending the Capulet's feast to see if he could find other women to gawk at. And it immediately works because when Romeo first sees Juliet he can't take his eyes off her saying that she's "Beauty too rich for use,"(54) and it's the same when Juliet first looks at him. In the play they both start playfully flirting with each other saying things like "O then, dear saint, let lips do what hands do."(114).

This song represents how Romeo because it symbolizes what he feels from the beginning of the scene to the end. In the beginning Romeo is still moping about his rejection from Rosaline and about his dream about being killed if he attends the Capulet feast "When tomorrow comes, i'll be on my own, feeling frightened of, the things that I don't know". Romeo is scared and feels very alone in his fears but all of that washes away when he sees Juliet "I got all I need when I got you and I, I look around me, and see a sweet life". Romeo forgets about his loneliness and his fears entirely and replaces them with new visions about his possible future with Juliet(not yet knowing she is a Capulet). Romeo forgets the people around him and only knows that he has to be with Juliet "I see the shadows long beneath the mountain top, i'm not afraid when the rain won't stop, 'cause you light the way, you light the way, you light the way". Even when Romeo later finds out about Juliet being a Capulet(and Juliet finding out that Romeo is a Montague) he still loves her and sees her as his flashlight "You're my flashlight".
